Did you know that I created the image above using five strips of scrap fabric and a newspaper headline I cut out? No sewing required, just a scanner. There are five things about the header above that may help you get to know me:
Long story, short: After teaching ELA (English Language Arts:) to middle schoolers and working part-time at Barnes & Noble for ten years while raising my four children, I became Founder and Director of The Room to Write which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports and connects writers of all ages, abilities and means north of Boston.
Memberstuff: I am a member of the Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), Mass State Poetry Society, the International Women's Writing Guild (IWWG), Wakefield Cultural Council & Wakefield Community Access Television's (WCAT) Board of Directors.
Short story, a little longer: I like being creative and you may have noticed at the bottom of this website I claim to have designed it and taken all the photos or created all the images. It is true, unless otherwise noted. I have always loved taking photos and designing all sorts of things from cakes to newsletters, costumes to websites. It has been so much fun creating my own website. I have the freedom to let my creative side out in full force.
Stories: I am currently at work on what I consider my answer to The Secret Garden but with a little more modern relationships and a lot more garden immersion. I continue to polish up my completed mysterious, time-traveling Middle Grade novel about a boy named Xavier and a girl named Eleanor who live sixty years apart but in the same neighborhood, and make some tweaks to my contemporary, coming-of-age Young Adult novel about a girl named Lucy who discovers poetry might help her stay afloat but needs the courage to be herself on paper and out loud:)
- Tangible: I like creating with my hands and with physical materials like pens, paper, fabric, etc.
- Variety: It's the spice of life--I like a little of this, and a pinch of that!
- Layered: I love visual and written pieces that encourage deeper discovery.
- Colorful: What would our world be without color and vivid patterns.
- Unique: I am always looking for new ways to see and say things.
